Zillow Listing Goes Viral Thanks To Amusing Bedroom Sign

The housing market has been making headlines in recent years due to significant fluctuations and challenges experienced by both buyers and sellers. Factors such as rising interest rates, low inventory, and corporate purchases of single-family homes for rental purposes have all garnered attention in various ways. However, a house listing from Wisconsin has recently made headlines for entirely different reasons.

Flipping Homes as a Couple

Lauren Hegenbarth and her husband embarked on a journey of flipping homes in 2013 after he sold his truck. House flippers are individuals who purchase a home with the intention of renovating it and then selling it for a profit, providing the opportunity for someone else to make it their forever home.

Lauren has a passion for flipping homes, and the latest listing she and her husband have posted is a captivating four-bedroom residence in rural Wisconsin. However, what’s causing this house to go viral isn’t solely its property value or square footage.

A Crafty Soul

Besides her love for flipping homes, Lauren also indulges in crafting homemade signs. As the proud owner of a Cricut machine, she frequents craft stores like Hobby Lobby to purchase blank signs and customize them according to her preferences.

Lauren has always had a penchant for creating DIY home decor, and in 2015, she took her passion a step further by starting to sell her designs. Establishing a group on Facebook called Sleepless Beauty Designs, she offered not only signs but also homemade wreaths for sale.

Inspiration Struck While Browsing Online

While her husband was away on a 60-day work deployment to New Orleans, Lauren stumbled upon an intriguing sign while perusing Facebook groups. This sparked an idea that would soon capture the internet’s fascination.

The sign read “Welcome to Poundtown,” instantly piquing Lauren’s interest. She knew it was something her husband would appreciate, perfectly fitting his personality. Inspired by the idea, she decided to create her own version of the sign and surprised her husband with it upon his return from deployment.

Family Joined in on the Fun

Undeterred by the slightly inappropriate nature of the sign, Lauren proceeded to craft it with their kids around. She later reassured interviewers that she felt comfortable doing so. With two out of three children unable to read, Lauren found it easy to manage any inquiries. When the oldest asked about the sign’s meaning, Lauren simply brushed it off, explaining it as a humorous quote from a movie.

The question never arose again, as Lauren’s children seemed accustomed to the various signs adorning their home. The rest of her family also found the “Welcome to Poundtown” sign amusing. In fact, Lauren’s sister was so taken with it that she placed an order for a sign of her own after seeing it.

A Thoughtful Gift for her Husband

Reflecting on her sense of humor during an interview, Lauren revealed that it’s a blend of sarcasm and raunchy humor, much like her husband’s. She later shared a photo online of her husband and their dog lounging on the bed in their bedroom, unveiling the sign to the internet.

Her Facebook friends adored it, and the overwhelming interest prompted Lauren to create a second Facebook group dedicated to selling signs that were a bit less suitable for public display. Wanting to ensure her regular buyers wouldn’t be offended, she named the new group Sleepless Beauty Designs After Dark VIP.

The Viral Sign

However, the internet’s fascination with the sign didn’t end with the Facebook post. In early 2022, when Lauren and her husband completed the renovation of their home and listed it for sale, she was surprised to discover pictures of their home circulating on one of her favorite Twitter accounts.

Social Media Propelling the House into the Limelight

The Twitter post that propelled the house listing and its cheeky sign into the spotlight humorously remarked, “what happens when your Michael’s obsession goes too far.” Alongside images of various rooms in the beautiful home, including other signs crafted by Lauren to adorn the space, the post captured the attention of social media users.
